Teens Shrink Wrap Highway, Cop Runs Into It
The teens strung plastic shrink wrap across County Highway KR at State Hwy. 32 in the village of Mt. Pleasant. They sat at a nearby intersection Wednesday night and waited for a car to plow through it.
Their victim was a Mt. Pleasant police officer. He couldn't see the shrink wrap until he was too close to stop. "He noticed those lines of white light flickering in front of him and he plowed right into the plastic wrap," said Capt. Tom Peterson.
The officer was not hurt but his patrol car suffered some minor damage.
The officer immediately arrested a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds. He found rolls of the plastic wrap in their car. Later police found three other locations throughout the village where the teens had tried the same stunt.
No one was hurt, but police take this very seriously. "It's not funny. It is serious and we do believe that felony charges are appropriate," Peterson said.
Similar pranks have led to serious injuries in the past. In 2004, two people were nearly killed when they ran into plastic wrap on their motorcycle in Waukesha.
