Local NewsHistoric Rail Cars VandalizedBy Melissa McCrady
EAST TROY - A few historic rail cars have been damaged by graffiti vandals.
"How heartless can you be?" Richard Cecil, president of the East Troy Railroad Museum, asked. Vandals spray painted four antique train cars with graffiti. "It's desecrating something that, in essence, has historic value to this community and the state of Wisconsin," he added.
The East Troy Railroad Museum owns the cars. They date back to the early 1900's and cost the museum more than $100,000 to refurbish. Vandals broke into a garage where the cars are kept.
"Everybody was quite upset yesterday when we discovered this," Cecil stated.
Now the concern is cleaning up the graffiti. It's not only expensive, but time consuming.
"We only have six weeks to do it," Cecil said. The museum needs all of its cars as the season is about to begin. This season marks the museum's 100th anniversary.
Town of East Troy police are still looking for the vandals.
