Crucial Decision Expected 5/8/06

By Jenn Rourke

MANITOWOC - A judge is expected to make a crucial decision in the Teresa Halbach murder and rape case this week. At issue is whether to allow in court Brendan Dassey's statement about his involvement in the case. Dassey's attorney said the judge should not allow the teen's statements because they were coerced. Prosecutors said the statements were voluntary. The teenager and his uncle, Steven Avery, are both charged in the rape and murder of the 25-year-old photographer. A hearing is set for Friday for the judge to issue his decision.
