WAUWATOSA- A 14-year old girl was arrested last week for texting in class. It happened at Wauwatosa East High School. According to Wauwatosa police, it started when the 14-year old student kept sending text messages in class. The teacher told her over and over again to stop, but the teen kept at it. Finally, the teacher called the school's police officer. The officer demanded the phone, and the teen hid it down her pants and denied having a cell phone. She was arrested for disorderly conduct for disrupting class, disobeying the teacher, and lying to the officer about having a phone. TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Michael George spoke with the teen's father. We are not identifying him or the teen by name. He says his daughter crossed the line, and school officials made the right call. "They were more than fair. They gave her a few chances, but for some reason she didn't abide by that," he said. It cost her and her family. Not only was she arrested and forced to appear in court, she ended up with a $300 bail and she was suspended for a week. "It's very disturbing and upsetting for me," her father said. Some Wauwatosa East parents told TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Michael George they're going to warn their own kids about texting in class. "I'll remember to tell mine, "No texting!" cause I don't want to pay a ticket like that," said Carolyn Smith. The story doesn't end there. After her suspension, the teen was caught sneaking back into school twice, earning her two trespassing tickets.
