MILWAUKEE – Wednesday marks the official kickoff for the 105th Harley-Davidson anniversary celebration.

The official start to the five day celebration was at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, with Harley execs welcoming riders from all over the world at the Harley-Davidson headquarters.

Several hundred bikers opted not to ride to the 105th. The Lake Express Ferry was packed with hundreds of Harleys Wednesday: 120 of them per boatload, to be exact.

Joe Garber, a rider from the Detroit suburbs, owns one of them.

"I rode through Chicago for the 100th and it was a rough experience for me,” Garber said.

Gagnom Sylvaim and his group from Quebec rode from Montréal to Muskegon, but wanted to get to Milwaukee in time for the welcome celebration.

"It was faster for us. We drive for two days and take the ferry to be here very soon,” Sylvaim said.

While their reasons for coming to the 105th are different…their reason for giving their bikes a break is the same.

"I just thought I would do it the easy way this time,” Garber said.
