MILWAUKEE - Barack Obama has selected his running mate, but there is no word on who.

Obama told USA Today he chose a person whose is independent and someone who would challenge him in the White House.

Obama says he chose a person who is capable of being president. Obama will reveal his VP choice sometime before Saturday afternoon. Obama will campaign in Eau Claire on Sunday.

The Democratic National Convention begins Monday in Denver.

A young man from Milwaukee will be the youngest superdelegate at the convention.

Jason Rae is en route to Denver Thursday. He made national news this past winter when the superdelegates were being wooed by the Clinton and Obama campaigns for his vote.

“I am excited to be out there. It will be a great time,” Rae said.

He says attending the convention will be the icing on the cake in what he can only describe as a fantasy political year. Because the Marquette senior is a superdelegate, he was courted heavily during the primary season which included long conversation with senators Obama and Clinton and even lunch with Chelsea.

“I have loved this experience. It has been something that I could not have anticipated. Being 21 and getting to go to the national convention, being on the floor,” Rae said.

Rae says throughout year, he has shared all of his experiences with friends. It's something he'll continue to do in Denver.

“I am calling my friends every night from the convention floor and I am sharing this experience and I will do emails to them to give them updates letting them know what I am experiencing so they can be a part of it as well,” Rae said.

He says while he's most looking forward to seeing Obama accept the nomination for president, right now what he really wants to know is who he will choose as running mate.

“I'll get the text message when everyone else does. Everyone has their phone in hand. I am just hoping it doesn't come when I am on the plane to Denver today,” Rae said.
