Four years of water works rate increases planned
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's Water Works plans to raise rates four times over the next four years.
The Milwaukee Common Council voted 14-0 to ask the state to approve a 3% rate increase this year.
The Water Works plans to raise rates by another 9% in 2014, 3% in 2015 and 3% in 2016.
City Budget Director Mark Nicolini tells the Journal Sentinel that the increases would keep the water works financially stable.
It would also make sure $12 million dollars could enter the city's general fund every year to help lower the tax levy.
