Man accused of Hartford church vandalism thought it was all a 'crazy dream'
HARTFORD - A man has been arrested for the vandalism of a church in Hartford on March 15.
According to police, Joshua D. Wendt, 21, broke into the First Baptist Church on Church Street in Hartford just before 3 a.m. When police arrived, they found two fire extinguishers lying outside the church as well as debris from broken windows. They also found the pews of the church covered in what appeared to be fire extinguisher dust.
There was also broken glass throughout the building, including from stained-glass windows at the church.
Wendt was arrested on March 17 and said he went out drinking on the night of March 14, but did not remember anything from 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on March 15. He did say he felt like he had a "crazy dream" though, and had flashbacks of a fire extinguisher and as well as different parts of the church.
Wendt has been charged with two counts of Criminal Damage to a Religious Property.
