MPD terminates officer for disciplinary problems
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn has terminated one of his officers with a history of disciplinary issues dating back to 2001.
Flynn fired Officer Dwight Copeland March 13 for “failure to be forthright and candid” during an unspecified investigation of Copeland’s actions.
According to department records, Copeland had “a long list of demerits on his disciplinary record, including a 10 day suspension in 2012 after an incident when he stopped a bus driven by his ex-girlfriend.
Disciplinary documents claim Copeland said he stopped to ask how Beasley was feeling, but she said he was "hostile and physically aggressive." She said he parked his police vehicle in front of her bus so she couldn't leave and "struck her on the bicep through the open window" while yelling obscenities at her.
A 2011 evaluation of Copeland’s service record characterized him as “unreliable.”
