Two boys killed in West Allis duplex fire
WEST ALLIS - Two boys have died in a duplex fire in the Milwaukee suburb of West Allis.
"Where my baby? Where's my baby?"
A mother's chilling cries for her child ring out as firefighters battle a house fire so intense it lit up the night sky.
The fire happened very early Sunday morning. Fire departments from Wauwatosa and Greenfield helped West Allis Firefighters get a handle on the intense flames. Three brothers and a friend were alone in the upper level of the duplex when it caught fire early Sunday. Two of the brothers survived, while one brother and a friend did not.
"As they tried to get to the attic through the second floor, the ceiling collapsed on them and they had to pull out of the building," a firefighter told TODAY'S TMJ4.
George Gonzales and his grandchildren had been at the scene all morning watching firefighters. They said a prayer for the two children that died in the fire. He says one of the victims, 14-year-old Michael Gonzales, is his nephew.
"He was a good kid," Gonzales says.
"He was always taking care his grandma. That's why he was here you know he lived with the grandma. But, he just came to visit the mom over the weekend."
Gonzales says the children were alone at the time.
"They're still kids. You know what I'm saying. You don't leave kids alone."
The other victim in this fire has not been identified.
The other two kids were taken to Children's Hospital. One is listed in fair condition, while the other's condition is not clear.
