STURTEVANT - In the village of Sturtevant, all eyes are on the weather.
“I’ve used my snow blower more this year than I think I have the previous three years combined,” said Terry Kultgen.
Kultgen stocked up on gas for his snow blower, prepping for the third storm in three weeks, the fifth in a month.
“I’m sort of thinking the weather people have done a good job at predicting the snow fall, so I’m not going to second guess them tonight!” he said.
Twenty-seven inches have fallen since Jan. 31 at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee with even more accumulation in Racine and Kenosha counties.
It’s the kind of winter businesses like Affordable Tree Care in Sturtevant, have waited for. They plow snow.
“We kind of thought it would be a sleepy winter again but to our surprise, here it is…again!” said Debra Lein, VP of Operations.
In February alone, the company blew through as much salt as they normally would an entire snow season. With back to back storms, plows have required extra TLC.
Lein describes the last few weeks as “non stop, not a lot of sleeping, just trying to keep up with everything.”
It’s a love/hate relationship with sometimes 30 hours of non-stop work. But after last year’s lackluster winter, it’s welcome work.
