Wood County inmate to stand trial in murder plot
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (AP) -- A 22-year-old Wood County inmate will stand trial for allegedly trying to arrange a murder while he was jailed on a homicide charge.
Gabriel Campos, Marshfield, has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect in stabbing death of his former girlfriend 18-year-old Maisie McCullough on Sept. 7. She's mother of his 2-year-old son.
On Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty to attempted solicitation of first-degree intentional homicide after authorities said he tried to hire another inmate to kill someone McCullough was dating.
The Daily Tribune reports (http://wrtnews.co/Y0FGtP ) a Wood County judge found enough evidence Tuesday for the case to move forward.
Marshfield Police Officer Jim Cramm testified the inmate indicated that Campos offered to give him $4,600 in cash, a car and a gun for the homicide.
