Muskego teen, her mom on dry land after ordeal on Carnival Triumph
MILWAUKEE - A cruise ship stranded at sea for five long days has finally docked in Mobile, Alabama, but the journey hasn't ended for a teenager and her mother who were heading home to Wisconsin.
Allison Raison and her mom were two of 4,200 people who made their way off the Carnival Triumph at 1:00 a.m. Friday morning.
They were to arrive at Mitchell International Airport
They are returning after a nightmare at sea.
"The power went out, and that's when we were pretty much scared for our lives," said Raison, who is from Muskego.
"We knew something was wrong."
They had no power in their cabins, no water and nowhere to go, and on board with 4,200 other passengers.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Steve Chamraz talked to them by phone.
Chamraz: 'You're one of the people we see under a white sheet on the deck?"
Raison: "Yep. That's us."
They spent five days sleeping on the deck of the Triumph.
"The smell, it's just nasty like a sewer," explained Raison.
"A lot of the bathrooms aren't working, so we have to go in the showers, or they (give) us red hazard bags to go in."
They, along with other passengers on board, had to learn to kill time.
They could see land from the ship, but knew it would be hours before they got there.
After Raison and her mother got off the ship, they had to grab a bus and travel five hours to Houston.
