CDC warns against antibiotic-resistant strain of gonorrhea
ATLANTA - The Centers for Disease Control are warning against a new strain of gonorrhea that could be resistant to current forms of anti-biotics.
"The emergence of cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhea in the United States would make gonorrhea much more difficult to treat," said the CDC. "Gonorrhea has progressively developed resistance to the antibiotic drugs prescribed to treat it. The emergence of cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhea would significantly complicate our ability to treat gonorrhea successfully, since we have few antibiotic options left that are simple, well-studied, and highly effective."
The CDC recommends specific treatment options for the disease. You can find more information on their website here.
