Cardinal Timothy Dolan as the next pope: What are the odds?
IRELAND - Just as for most elections or sports events, Las Vegas and the rest of the world has taken to betting on who will be named the new pope. An Irish waging service, PaddyPower.com, has been taking bets all day.
As of 5 p.m. Monday, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the former archbishop of Milwaukee, is now coming in at 25 to 1. The number puts Dolan as 12th on the list. Cardinal Peter Turksen of Ghana is in first place at 3 to 1, and Canada's Cardinal Marc Ouellet is in second at 7 to 2.
The long-shot on the list is U2 singer Bono, who is coming in at 1000 to 1.
The numbers are constantly changing based on wagers, but it looks like Cardinal Dolan is a very real possibility for the successor to Pope Benedict XVI.
