Exclusive: Waukesha Police Investigate Sexual Assault
George Mallet
WAUKESHA - Police here are investigating a sordid sexual assault case which happened over the weekend.
Authorities say two teenage girls ran away from the Waukesha County shelter care facility and ended up at a Barney Street address.
Police say a resident of that home, 20-year-old James Smith, supplied the 14 and 16 year old girls with alcohol and then sexually assaulted them. The home was reportedly filled with teenagers at the time, three of whom may have participated in the assault.
TODAY’S TMJ4 visited the home Thursday night. A teenager who answered the door described himself as James Smith’s younger brother. When TODAY’S TMJ4 asked the boy if his mother was home, the boy walked out onto the porch and toward an approaching Mazda SUV. The driver saw the television reporter and drove off. “Isn’t that mom?” another boy shouted from the doorway of the house. “That’s mom.”
The Mazda went around the block and parked on a back street. The driver was then seen scurrying into the Barney Street home.
Neighbors made no attempt to feign surprise over the alleged weekend sexual assault.
“It’s more or less cops every night,” said Sheri Meade after walking her oversized pit bull mix through the neighborhood. “I’m just sick and tired of it and I want something done about it.”
Other neighbors expressed fear over their neighbors of eight months and declined to comment on the record.
In addition to Smith, a second suspect is likely to be charged on Friday. Davon Owens, 18, remained in the Waukesha County lockup Thursday night. Police expected him to face charges Friday afternoon. The case remains under investigation.
