MADISON - Family and friends gathered in Madison Thursday night to remember the three men killed in the UW med flight helicopter crash.
Dr. Darren Bean, Nurse Mark Coyne and Pilot Steve Lipperer were killed. They dropped off a patient and were flying back home when the chopper crashed.
Thursday night’s service honored Dr. Darren Bean and Pilot Steve Lipperer. They, along with flight Nurse Mark Coyne, were killed late Saturday.
They had just finished flying a patient from Prairie du Chien to a La Crosse hospital. Their helicopter crashed into a bluff near Onalaska.
Dr. Bean was only 37 years old. He will be remembered as a doctor who revolutionized treatment of heart attack victims.
Pilot Steve Lipperer was 39. He had flown with med flight since 2000, and logged thousands of hours flying life saving missions.
A separate memorial service will be held for Nurse Mark Coyne.
Thursday night’s service is mainly for family and friends.
