123 Citations In Dog Abuse Case
Associated Press
PLEASANT PRAIRIE - Pleasant Prairie police say they will issue more than 120 citations to a man who had 61 dogs removed from his home earlier this week.
Gary Smith and his wife bred Italian greyhounds, a small dog that sometimes weighs less than 10 pounds.
Smith has been cited for having unlicensed dogs, unvaccinated dogs and more than four adult dogs in a residence, and for housing them in unsanitary conditions.
He is due in court June 4, but village Police Chief Brian Wagner says Smith could pay the 123 citations or enter a plea by mail before then and skip the appearance.
Wagner says he will not recommend state criminal charges for animal cruelty to the district attorney. He says the dogs are mostly healthy and in a shelter.
