Raw Video: Robberies Part Of Growing Problem On East Side
Charles Benson
MILWAUKEE - People are nervous near the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee campus.
Two young men robbed five teenagers at gun point Tuesday night. Neighbors say that's part of a growing problem.
I-pods, cell phones, money. That's what the armed robbers got away with, but that's not all they took.
The robbers also took mike McCoy's sense of security.
"I have a young family," said McCoy. "And I want to make sure that they are safe."
"With these armed robberies it really concerns me," said McCoy. "The gun violence is really a problem in this city."
A problem that also worries block watch captain David Rickert. He's a firefighter with three young children.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Charles Benson: "What do you think needs to be done?"
"Aggressive policing! Let police be police," said Rickert.

While residents know there is less crime on the upper east side compared to others parts of the city, they would still like to see more police.
If not McCoy has a plan B.
"Installing security cameras in our neighborhood or whether it's hiring our own private security, we need to make some changes," McCoy said.
McCoy believes the east side is still a great place to live. He just hopes that doesn't change.
"We want to send a message," said McCoy "that as neighbors we are not going to put up with crime in this neighborhood."
McCoy has invited the mayor and alderman to a meeting next week so residents can talk about what they could do to help make the neighborhood safe.
