Inmate found dead in Green Co. Jail cell
MONROE, Wis. (AP) -- An inmate has been found dead in his cell at the Green County Jail in Monroe.
The sheriff's office says jail deputies found the inmate about 6 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies tried to revive the inmate, who was not breathing, while emergency responders were sent to the jail. But responders were not able to revive him, and the man was pronounced dead at the jail by the county coroner.
Sheriff Jeff Skatrud says authorities don't know what caused the inmate's death. The Monroe Police Department has been asked to conduct an independent investigation of the death.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports the man's name, age and other details are expected to be released Thursday, after relatives are notified.
