Happy birthday, Bob Uecker!
MILWAUKEE - The man with the nickname "Mr. Baseball" celebrates his birthday today.
Newsradio 620 WTMJ Brewers play-by-play announcer Bob Uecker, who was born in Milwaukee, reaches 78 years old today.
Uecker, a Major League Baseball and National Radio Hall of Famer, has been with the Brewers' play-by-play team since 1971, working with broadcast partners like Merle Harmon, Tom Collins, Lorn Brown, Dwayne Mosley, Pat Hughes, Jim Powell, Cory Provus and starting in 2012, Joe Block.
His career also includes years as a stand-up comic, a stint on the TV show "Mr. Belvidere" and the role of Harry Doyle in the baseball movie "Major League," which was mainly filmed in Milwaukee.
All that after his six year playing career with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies., where he produced a batting average of .200.
