4th Grader May Have Threatened Student with Gun
Jay Olstad
CUDAHY - It started out as a typical day at Lincoln Elementary School Wednesday--that is until a 10-year-old boy brought a loaded gun to school.
"He said if I told anyone he would shoot me with it,” she said.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Jay Olstad: "How did that make you feel?"
"Scared," she said.
For obvious reasons we are not identifying the 10-year-old girl or her family.
Her decision to tell teachers didn't come easy. At first, she didn't believe the boy, but then he apparently took out the bullets and showed her.
"I decided to tell because if he could hurt someone or shot someone else, you know," the girl said.
That decision could have saved lives. That's because the girl says the boy was playing with the loaded gun underneath his shirt at his desk without anyone noticing.
"I'm very proud of her she told someone and that she fought the fear because she sat there all day in the classroom knowing it was there, knowing that people could get hurt," said the girl's aunt.
Her aunt tells TODAY'S TMJ4, the girl didn't even want to go to school the next day because she was terrified the boy might hurt her.
"Most of us who discussed it don't feel the child should be back in school," the aunt said.
We tried to talk to school officials to see if the boy would be back in school on Monday but so far we haven't been able to get a hold of them.
Meantime, the girl and her family try to move on grateful someone wasn't hurt.
"I would have been totally shocked if that would have happened there. Devastated," the aunt said.
Cudahy Police would not confirm the alleged threat, saying it was under investigation.
Our efforts in contacting the boy's family were unsuccessful. But since it was his dad's gun, the boy and his father could be facing charges.
