Waukesha Graffiti Vandals Caught

WAUKESHA - Erin Hardy’s tiny black Kia is covered with roughly rendered pitchforks. She remembers what she said when she stepped out of her house and saw the vandalism.

“Oh my goodness,” she gasped. “I can’t believe anyone would do this!”

The other thing she won’t forget is the conversation she had with two teen boys who stopped by shortly after the discovery.

“They were on their bikes,” she said. “They were expressing disbelief that anyone would do this. The one went on and on about how horrible it was.”

Erin thought the two were showing a little too much interest in the vandalism. She was already snapping pictures of her car for insurance purposes and snapped a picture of the boys too.

Waukesha police would later use that picture to arrest two suspected vandals.

Ed Cole has been a victim of vandals too. That’s why he has his own makeshift surveillance system monitoring his home and business. His camera was rolling early Tuesday morning as two teen girls spray painted street signs near his home.

Although the images themselves are not high resolution, it is clear he caught the teens red-handed. What’s more, he got their license plate number. After he shared his evidence with Waukesha police, officers were able to get two confessions.

All told, Waukesha Police have now made six arrests stemming from a string of graffiti crimes. Charges are pending against the youngsters in juvenile court.
