WHITEFISH BAY - There was a line of protesters outside the Jewish Community Center Thursday evening, but inside, people celebrating Israel, said they wouldn't let the protesters stop their joy.
It's the story of two groups: one that's celebrating and one that's protesting.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the United Nations vote that established the state of Israel, kids play drums, people eat Israeli snacks, Thursday night, there was a concert celebrating Israeli music.
While all of those festivities happen inside, outside of the Jewish Community Center, people held signs to protest what they call Israel's oppression.
"The right to expose the positive aspects of Israel: Israel's contribution to the high-tech industry, Israel's contribution to the agriculture industry, literature, whatever it is," Yoni Zvi said.
"Palestinians born there, have been there for centuries, are not able to return to their homes, are not able to build on their lands, and so, so many of them are refugees," Robert Ashmore, a Peace Action Wisconsin protester said.
Even though there was strong disagreement between the group inside the JCC and outside the JCC, the protest was peaceful.
