MILWAUKEE - Friday is the 10th anniversary of the TODAY'S TMJ4 Community Baby Shower.
You can drop off baby supplies at any Sentry Foods Store in your neighborhood.
Your donations make a difference in the lives of moms like Shamah Stark.
She looks like your typical mom, enjoying her 8-month-old twins, Coby and Cloe, but it's taken her nearly two years to get to this point.
She had just dropped out of Michigan State University and didn't have a job when she found out she was pregnant.
When she learned she was having twins, she knew she had to get her life together.
That's when she called TODAY'S TMJ4's Susan Kim to ask about the 'Community Baby Shower.'
Susan referred her to Safe Babies Healthy Families in Waukesha. Shamah met with Kerri McDermott.
"She came into the office and we just talked," said Kerri. That talking let to regular visits and support.
Shamah says what really helped her was the agency's program to earn "baby bucks" to "pay" for needed baby supplies.
McDermott says the program "gives them empowerment for doing something to help their children."
Some of the items collected in our 'Community Baby Shower' are donated to Safe Babies Healthy Families.
The program has worked for Shamah. She is taking college classes again, has a job, and her twins are beautiful and healthy.
Shamah says that if you had told her when she was pregnant that she would be "sitting here today that I would have my own place, have a job, and one class away from a degree, two healthy babies that I'm caring for myself, I would have thought you were crazy."
Again, our 'Community Baby Shower' is all day Friday. You can donate at any Sentry Foods store.
