Milwaukee Police detective shoots teenager during attempted robbery
MILWAUKEE - Authorities were to take Monday to investigate after an off-duty Milwaukee Police detective shot an armed suspect during a robbery attempt.
It happened Sunday night on Milwaukee's north side on the 4500 block of North 27th Street just before 6 p.m.
Police say the 17-year-old suspect approached the off-duty detective and demanded valuables.
They say the detective then pulled a gun on the suspect and shot him. The suspect then fled the scene.
Officials say the suspect walked into a nearby grocery store near 27th and Atkinson and asked for medical attention. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The detective wasn't hurt. He's 53 and has almost 23 years of service under his belt. He works for the criminal investigation bureau.
He'll be placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
