Organizers: Successful Immigration March

MILWAUKEE - Thousands of people marched in Milwaukee and other cities around the country Thursday in support of immigration law reform.
This is the third year for the march.
Organizers are calling the march a big success. Turn out was smaller than last year, but marchers say they still think politicians got the point.
For a third straight year, thousands of Latinos took to the streets of Milwaukee. They carried flags and signs and the message they wanted immigration reform as soon as the new president takes office.
“We want to make sure immigrant people are respected by this country and that they pass appropriate legislation to make it happen for all of us,” Tony Baez said.
Marchers say there might have been fewer voices this year, but they were louder.
“We have to persist. We have to be persistent. We have to take our point across and this is what we are doing,” Baez said.
According to recent census numbers, the Latino population is growing in Wisconsin at a faster rate than the national average.
Economist Mike Rosen believes Hispanics are choosing Milwaukee because there's an established community here, and most importantly there are jobs here as well.
“People are coming because there is economic opportunity and they are coming to areas that traditionally not have been known for large concentrations of Latino people,” Rosen said.
Organizers say by the time May 1 rolls around next year, they hope some type of immigration reform is in place.
