MILWAUKEE - The St. Louis men's basketball team carried out the casket of their coach Saturday, as he was laid to rest in Milwaukee.
Rick Majerus spent the last five seasons in St. Louis, but grew up in Wisconsin and also spent much of his career coaching Marquette University basketball.
He posted an overall record of 56-35 in three seasons and helped the program to a trio of National Invitation Tournament appearances.
His 25 year head coaching career included 517 victories and 12 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Gesu on Wisconsin Avenue Saturday.
Majerus died of a heart ailment last week at age 64.
Fans planned to recognize Coach Majerus with a moment of silence at Saturday night's Marquette-Wisconsin game, prior to the national anthem.
Today's TMJ4's Lance Allan spoke with many people outside the funeral, who shared many fond memories of the coach.
