The fire was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m. in a two-story, wood-frame, side-by-side duplex in the 4300 block of N. 67th St., Battalion 2 Fire Chief Spencer Vassel said.
According to Vassel, firefighters encountered heavy smoke throughout the structure and found the woman on the first floor. She was taken to a hospital, where her condition was unavailable.
The home was equipped with working smoke detectors, and bystanders managed to rescue several dogs from the fire, which caused about $16,000 damage, Vassel said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
