Waterford teen critically hurt in hit and run
WATERFORD - Authorities think they've found the people responsible for a hit and run that left a Waterford boy in critical condition.
The driver hit a 13-year-old as he walked in a crosswalk.
It happened downtown Waterford shortly after the end of a Christmas parade Saturday night.
Authorities say the driver stopped briefly, but never got out of the truck to check on the boy and then drove away.
Within a few hours investigators tracked down the vehicle involved to a parking lot close to the scene. The Racine County Sheriff said he called in several detectives to bring the case to a quick resolve.
Jacob Czaplewski saw it all unfold as he sat nearby drinking a shake.
"I heard a loud bang and I turned to look and the kid was lying on the ground so I came up and I realized it was one of my good friends."
Jacob called 911 and another friend.
It appears the vicitm was walking by himself when he was hit.
The boy was breathing at the scene but had serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Children's Hospital in Wauwatosa.
Flight For Life was called but unable to fly due to the weather.
