Wildlife expert: Wisconsin 'deer harvest will be up'
MADISON - As hundreds of thousands of hunters pack gear and supplies for the start of the nine-day deer season, some pro's are making predictions on this year's harvest.
In other words, check the tree stand, get the camouflage out and check your sight.
"My prediction is the deer harvest will be up," said Wisconsin Wildlife Federation Director George Meyer.
He expects that hunters should be ready for a "good hunting" season.
"Without earn-a-buck for the third year, which takes does out of the population, you're going to see a higher population for most areas."
Meyer also previews where to possibly find the best deer herds.
"Far northwest Wisconsin and far northeast Wisconsin, herds are building back from a lull, but the farm units of central to southern Wisconsin, there's going to be some excellent deer hunting."
The season begins Saturday and runs through November 25th.
