Jessica King concedes in state Senate race
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- The state Senate's outstanding race from last week's election has been decided.
Sen. Jessica King, a Democrat from Fond du Lac, said she called Republican Rick Gudex Tuesday and congratulated him on his victory and thanked him for a hard fought campaign.
The Republicans now have an 18-15 majority in the Senate.
Gudex, the Fond du Lac City Council president, held a 590-vote lead and had declared victory, but King wanted to see the official results before conceding. After the official canvases in Fond du Lac and Winnebago Counties, Gudex said he increased his lead by 9 votes. Dodge County's canvass is Wednesday.
King had won office in the August 2011 recalls, but Republicans had held that district for 35 years.
Gudex said he looked forward to getting to work.
