Decomposed body found at Milwaukee's lakefront
MILWAUKEE - An investigation is ongoing after a gruesome discovery is made Sunday at Milwaukee's lakefront.
If you've visited the lakefront, you've been past the park just north of the tennis courts and next to Alterra.
A group of people were doing a community clean-up of the woods when two young kids found the body near a tree just a few feet into the woods just before 12 p.m. Sunday.
People passing by were shocked.
"As soon as I saw the detectives, I thought it's also something that's a criminal thing," witness Justin Beck says.
Milwaukee Police say it looks like the body had been in the woods for quite a while. They suspect the elderly man was homeless and was living there when he died.
"It's just weird," witness Travis Wacker says. "You wouldn't expect it down here, but I guess expect the unexpected."
Police roped off the area and were there for several hours Sunday afternoon.
No word yet on whether foul play is suspected.
