People warned to avoid Lake Michigan; 14-to-18 foot waves still expected

MILWAUKEE - High wind and waves were still a concern Wednesday morning along parts of the Lake Michigan shore line as the effects of Superstorm Sandy reached Southeastern Wisconsin.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Nick Montes found high and dangerous waves at McKinley Marina.
A U.S. Coast Guard official told him they expected 14 to 18 foot waves Wednesday morning, with 10 to 14 foot waves later in the day.
Water was expected to be very choppy, so authorities are asking people to stay off the Lake Michigan coast and off the water.
Despite such warnings to stay away, people have been coming out to the lake shore to see the monstrous waves, slapping breakwalls and areas along the shoreline from Milwaukee to Kenosha County.
Many took photos of the lake, as it is rare to see the effect of a hurricane on it.
Though people in Pleasant Prairie used sandbags along the shoreline to ward off flooding, no reports of actual floods came in.
