KENOSHA- Police are investigating a disturbance of a fresh grave at Green Ridge Cemetery in Kenosha.

Investigators say they were alerted by cemetery workers after they discovered dirt and sand had been removed Wednesday afternoon.

An employee at the cemetery says the person who was digging was forced to stop after finding there was a heavy lid on the burial vault.  Police don't believe the person was able to get access to the casket.

It's also not clear if thieves were looking for valuables inside the casket or for something else.

"It's disheartening that we have anybody that would do something like that," said Bob Ramsdell. The Kenosha man and his wife were tending to their family's burial site when they heard the news.

Police say they have few leads. Anyone with information is asked to call Kenosha Police at 262-605-5203.
