MILWAUKEE - Two dumb criminals walked by 100 cop cars parked outside the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee to try to steal items from inside the building.

The ICC was hosting a conference for the Association of SWAT personnel Monday when two guys walked into the facility, tried to take stuff and walk out.

MPD Capt. Stephen Basting tells me the cops were hard to miss.

"There were about 240 law enforcement officers at this conference, and about 100 marked and unmarked police cars in the parking lot," said Basting to Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jodi Becker.

The staff saw the bad guys, asked the cops for help, and Basting says a handful of SWAT officers from several law enforcement agencies nabbed the men.

They were booked on outstanding warrants.

Shae Desotell likes the safety of living in the 3rd Ward, a few blocks from the ICC.

"I would say it's safe, very safe," she told TODAY'S TMJ4's Melissa McCrady.

She was surprised to hear about the attempted burglaries.

"I guess you see those reports of the dumbest criminals, and that's very fitting...I guess it doesn't really make me scared because if they're gonna be that stupid, then maybe they don't have any other scary plans."
