Capitol Police officer fired after gun goes off
MADISON- A Capitol Police officer has been fired after accidentally firing their gun inside the governor's mansion Thursday night.
Gov. Scott Walker and his family were not home at the time and no one was injured.
State Department of Administration spokeswoman Stephanie Marquis said Friday the officer initially was suspended while the incident was being investigated. Hours later she said the investigation was done and the officer was fired.
She says the officer was a new hire and still in their probationary period.
Marquis says the officer accidentally discharged the weapon inside the security office at the governor's mansion in Maple Bluff, an enclave of Madison. The incident happened around 10:45 p.m. Thursday.
