Despite digital age, Wisconsin paper industry is optimistic
NEENAH - Newsweek's decision to only publish digital content is a sign of things to come, according to those in the paper business.
"I'm not surprised. But it certainly is sad," Wisconsin Paper Council president Jeff Lindon told me. "You'd be naive to think this won't happen again in the future."
But there are reasons to be optimistic in the paper-producing industry, according to Lindon.
"We produce a wide range of paper products in Wisconsin," he explained. "We make a lot of tissue (which is virtually recession-proof). We make a lot specialty paper for food products and medical products."
Wisconsin is the top paper-producing state in the U.S. More than 32-thousand people work in the paper industry in Wisconsin.
