Partner of critically-injured MPD officer organizes comedy fundraiser for him
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Police Officer Josh Albert has returned home after being critically injured in a wrong-way crash.
His police partner is organizing a fundraiser to help him get back on the force.
An allegedly drunk wrong-way driver struck him while he was on his way home from duty.
Officer Katie Anderer saw the crash in September that nearly killed her partner on patrol, as she followed him on the freeway.
"All you saw was an explosion of cars. They hit so hard. Debris went flying everywhere," said Anderer.
When the debris settled, she came on scene to help Albert.
"I trust him with my life. I have three kids at home. I trust him, that I'm going to go home at night. I trust this person every day. The bond between us, it's close."
Anderer reports that Albert will remain in a wheelchair in January, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
"He talks about (getting back on the ob) every day, every day I see him. He (says) 'It's one day closer to me being your partner again.' I don't doubt it. I don't doubt it whatsoever that he'll one day be sitting next to me."
So she's standing by him. She organized a fundraiser for Wednesday night, a comedy event at Shank Hall.
She hopes people in the community will come and help out, and she already knows her extended family with the MPD will come.
"I think it's your brothers and sisters in blue. We're a family. We're all a big family. When something tragic like this happens, we all come together."
Tickets are $20 at the door. Milwaukee's own Dobie Maxwell will take part.
