Competency test due for Wis. mother in '57 death
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- A judge is expected to decide whether a Sheboygan woman accused of killing her baby 55 years ago is competent to stand trial.
The competency hearing for 76-year-old Ruby C. Klokow is set for Tuesday afternoon.
Defense attorney Kirk Obear requested a competency exam after raising concerns about his client's ability to assist in her own defense.
Judge Angela Sutkiewicz will review the results of the exam. If the doctor's report found that Klokow is competent to proceed, the judge will set a trial date.
A message left with Obear was not immediately returned.
Klokow was charged after her son came forward in 2008 with stories of horrific childhood abuse, including allegations that his mother kicked him with steel-toed boots so often that he still has knee problems.
