March, rally for Derek Williams expected Wednesday afternoon
MILWAUKEE- Family members of Derek Williams along with community organizations, activists and the faith community will join forces to march in an effort to get justice for Derek Williams' death.
Williams died last summer in the back of a Milwaukee Police Department squad car after repeatedly explaining to officers that he could not breathe. Williams' death was recently changed from a result of natural causes to a homicide.
"The Milwaukee Police Department refused to serve and protect that day and because of that my son lost his life," explains Sonya Moore, mother of Derek Williams.
The rally will begin at 1 p.m. at the Dr. King Statue on 1740 N. MLK Drive and conclude at MacArthur Square on 841 N. James Lovell Street.
According to a press release, organizers of the rally hope that "all individuals who are directly and indirectly responsible for Mr. Williams' death are arrested and tried in the court of law."
