Student arrested for placing 'MacGyver' bomb in Racine Park H.S.

RACINE - A 14-year-old has been arrested after authorities discovered a suspicious device in Racine Park High School Tuesday morning.
Racine's Police Department was alerted to a possible "MacGyver" bomb in a garbage can located on the third floor of the school. Officers removed the plastic water bottle from the school. It was later determined that the bottle wasn't assembled correctly, and wasn't going to explode.
A "MacGyver" bomb or "bottle" is common household chemicals and other items mixed in a plastic bottle which then explodes.
The Racine Unified School District tells TODAY'S TMJ4 that students were evacuated to the school's field house. Students were eventually let back into class.
A notification was not initially given to parents about the evacuation. Officials said a letter would be going to parents.
