Woman takes plea deal in murder of Brookfield businessman

BROOKFIELD- The woman who helped kill a Brookfield businessman has taken a plea deal from prosecutors.
Prosecutors believe Lynn Hajny helped in the murder of 63-year-old John Aegerter last year. The woman was supposed to face a jury and a trial next week. Now, she awaits sentencing and even a lighter prison sentence.
Police found the man dead, bound and beaten in his Brookfield garage last summer.
Hajny and her alleged boyfriend, Tommy Douyette, were arrested -- both charged with intentional homicide, which carries a mandatory life sentence.
But attorneys downgraded the charge against Hajny to felony murder. Though Douyette took a deal, he opened up about the crime and agreed to testify against the woman.
Prosecutors were worried his testimony may not be trustworthy.
The judge agreed to convict the woman -- who still maintains her innocence -- though he believes a jury would likely have sent her away for a lifetime in prison.
Hajny now faces 15 years behind bars -- and could be out when she's in her sixties. Defense attorneys are satisfied with the deal, but they'll press for even less time.
