Warnings to Marquette students after sex assault, robbery near campus
MILWAUKEE - Marquette University students are being warned to be aware of their surroundings at all times after a sexual assault and armed robbery near the campus.
A suspect has been arrested after the sexual assault happened Saturday night near North 21st and West Wells Streets.
Officials say the student, a woman, was walking alone when a man grabbed her.
Police said they were investigating the armed robbery which happened just a couple hours later near the corner of North 19th Street and West Kilbourn Avenue.
Both crimes happened in off-campus areas where students live.
The university says that if people are following you, cross the streets, head for a well-populated, well-lit area and contact Marquette's Department of Public Safety using a "blue-light phone." There are more than 300 of them on and near the campus.
