SHEBOYGAN- A neighbor of one of the teens accused of brutally murdering a 78-year-old woman is shocked by the criminal allegations.

Kristen Scarpaci lives just feet from Nathan Paape's Sheboygan home.

"(He is) just a normal 13-year-old, not somebody who could do something so horrific," said Scarpaci.

The teen and his friend, Antonio Barbeau, are charged with killing Barbeau's great grandmother.  Police say they were planning to rob her before striking her in the head with a hatchet and hammer last week.

"I did see him (Barbeau) over here probably a handful of times...riding bikes, hanging out," said Scarpaci.

Scarpaci said her daughter goes to school with the boys -- at Farnsworth Middle School -- and is in shock.

"My daughter doesn't know how to process this right now, just because she has known them..since they were in elementary school."

"I don't think anyone saw any huge red flags," said Scarpaci.

The two teens remain in jail on a $1 million bond.  They're scheduled to be back in court next week.
