DODGE COUNTY - "I'm sure he would have gotten hit."
And that is exactly what Guadalupe Ollarzabal thinks would have happened to a little boy found on the side of the highway Tuesday night. The Watertown resident was driving with his 14-year-old daughter, when they noticed something on the side of the road.
"Driving that late at night, there's a bunch of animals out here, so I wasn't sure what kind of animal it was so I took a second look and it was a kid."
In fact, it was a one-year-old boy wearing Superman pajamas darting through traffic on a busy highway. Ollarzabal screeched his car around. His daughter jumped out of the van and went to grab the little boy, who was cold, and disoriented.
"He did not know his name. He just knew mommy was working and daddy was home sleeping but he did not know his name, he did not know where he was."
Ollarzabal called 9-1-1. A Dodge County sheriff's deputy found the boy's father, less than half a mile away. He didn't even know his son had left the house.
"He was in shock, he thought the boy was sleeping and it was just one of those things that could happen to any parent."
The boy's parents will not be facing any charges.
