WAUKESHA - The Waukesha County District Attorney's Office charged Dana Hooper with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of her 10-week-old child, online records confirmed Tuesday.

Hooper, 32, is being held on $1 million cash bail.  She is due back in court on October 3.

Authorities arrested her Sunday, the day the infant was pronounced dead.

Her husband, Kevin Hooper, 33, was charged Tuesday with failing to report the death of a child, a felony punishable by a maximum sentence of 3 1/2 years in prison.

He is due back in court on October 18.

Dana Hooper allegedly stabbed their 10-week-old daughter to death in their Oconomowoc home last Saturday.  Apparently the couple never told anyone about what happened to their infant.

"It was ultimately the hospital staff that called 9-1-1 after they learned what had happened," said Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel.

Prosecutors said Kevin Hooper took his wife to a mental facility and reported her suicidal.  She apparently has dealt with postpartum depression before.

According to the criminal complaint, Dana Hooper told investigators she heard voices that told her to kill her baby -- she believed one of those was God.

"It certainly going to take some examinations by experts and some more investigation into circumstances leading up to Saturday," said Schimel.

The couple's other children, 2-and 3-years-old, are now under the care of a family member.
