Boy shot while riding bike; another shooting victim, 3 others in custody
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Police say that an 11-year-old boy was in stable condition after a shooting where he was not an intended victim.
Police explained that they brought a 20-year-old man who was shot into custody, along with three other men.
The boy had a graze wound to his chest. He was listed in stable condition.
The 20-year-old man was shot in his lower right leg. There was no word on his condition.
The shooting happened near the corner of North 37th and West Center Streets at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
The boy was riding his bike in an alley near his home at that corner when he was shot.
According to police, a number of people were firing guns in an alley about a block away, near 37th and Hadley.
One witness told TODAY'S TMJ4 that she heard at least 20 gunshots come from the alley."
Police said there was "evidence of possible gambling" where the shooting happened.
"Should no kid, no innocent kid, just riding their bike get grazed by a bullet," explained a shocked Haji Coleman, who lives in the neighborhood. "That's just not fair."
Coleman said there is a strong police presence in the area, but to her, it's not enough.
"That's why I don't let my babies go out like that."
