Paul Ryan visits Milwaukee area on Sept. 11 anniversary
OAK CREEK- Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is thanking military and fire officials for their service.
Shortly after landing in Milwaukee on Tuesday, Ryan spoke to about 80 members of the Wisconsin 128th Air National Guard refueling wing. He thanked them and shook their hands.
"Chicago -- sorry (big laugh), go Packers Thursday night," said Ryan.
The Janesville congressman also went to a fire station in Oak Creek where he had lunch with about two dozen fire department officials.
Ryan thanked those who put their lives on the line every day.
"I just wanted to come on the anniversary of 9/11 and say thank you to all of you who are first responders for what you do for us everyday," said Ryan.
But his words to the unit took on a more somber and thankful tone when he brought up the 11th anniversary of 9/11.
"This is a day we should be thinking about the people who gave their lives and it's a day we are really thankful for those of you who dedicated your lives to keeping us safe, for making our military, our Air Force the undeniable best in the world."
