Woman charged in wrong-way crash that injured Milwaukee police officer
MILWAUKEE - A woman was charged Friday with the wrong-way drunk driving crash that critically injured an off-duty Milwaukee police officer.
Erin M. Salmon, 23, faces counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and causing injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Both charges are felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, she was driving in the eastbound lanes of I-94 westbound near 30th St. when she crashed into Milwaukee Police Officer Joshua Albert. Both he and Salmon suffered critical injuries and remain hospitalized.
DOT video showed Salmon entering I-94 via the Van Buren off-ramp. According to the video, Salmon drove for nearly 2.4 miles with approximately 50 vehicles passing her.
The complaint said that Salmon's headlights were on when she entered the expressway. After driving for a unknown period of time, she stopped on the expressway for about a minute, turned off her headlights and continued heading the wrong way.
Salmon's Nissan was seen weaving in and out of lanes without signaling.
After she allegedly crashed into officer Albert's car -- authorities observed that her eyes were bloodshot and "glassy" looking.
If convicted, she faces a maximum of over 22 years in prison.
